Sinigang is a traditional Filipino dish that we grew up eating. Aside from its sour and savory flavor, it goes well with chilly weather and brings our family together at home. But there’s something different about this sinigang than we’re used to.
‘Sinigang,’ a well-known short story written in 2001, is a good example. Aubrey J. Villaceran penned the piece. It depicts Liza, the story’s main character, confronting her father’s lover, Sylvia, at the funeral of Lem, her half-brother who died of cancer.
For their family supper, Aunt Loleng and Liza cooked sinigang items. It’s one of her father’s favorite dishes. Her Aunt inquired about meeting Sylvia when they were preparing for sinigang. She recalled how excited she had been to meet her father’s lover. She also recalls her father crying and pleading for forgiveness.
Forgiveness and forgetting
Each of us makes mistakes that can cause harm to others. It might be difficult to forgive, especially when he or she makes mistakes that have a lasting impact on your life. However, the only way to make your life more serene is to learn how to forgive. We must forgive those who have wronged us, but never forget the lesson they have taught us. We must remember that forgiveness allows us to recover and grow as individuals.
